THE BORSTAL ASSOCIATION

Every lad who is imprisoned in Dartmoor or Borstal passes into the care of the Borstal Association on his discharge, unless he declines our assistance.

The work of the Association on a lad's behalf begins, however, some time before he comes out. He is visited in prison, and is encouraged to talk freely on his hopes and prospects on release. The information which has been collected by the authorities as to his previous life and conduct in prison is also placed at the disposal of the visitor, and we then begin, by correspondence with friends and past or possible employers, to pave the way for an immediate beginning of work on his release.
