
At the British Library we offer Primary, Secondary and FE teachers the chance to engage with our collections, develop new ideas for the classroom and share best practice through a programme of conferences, ITT and CPD events, independently or in partnership with subject associations and exam boards.

Writing: Our Place In partnership with LATE (London branch of the National Association for the Teaching of English) Saturday 26 May 2012, 9:30-15:30 This event for Secondary English teachers and trainee English teachers will focus on developing teachers' own creative writing and discuss the subsequent impact of this on classroom teaching. This CPD conference links to the exhibition Writing Britain: Wastelands to Wonderlands, which explores how writers have been inspired by, and helped to shape, the nation’s understanding of landscape and place. Reading for Pleasure In partnership with The Guardian Friday 6 July 2012, 9:30-15:30 This conference for Secondary English teachers and trainee English teachers will explore strategies to engage young people with reading, putting books at the heart of learning. The event will be chaired by The Guardian’s Books Editor Claire Armitstead. This CPD conference links to the exhibition Writing Britain: Wastelands to Wonderlands, which explores how writers have been inspired by, and helped to shape, the nation’s understanding of landscape and place. The conference will begin at The Guardian (Kings Place, London N1 9GU) and the afternoon will take place at the British Library (96 Euston Road, London NW1 2DB). Trainee Teacher Placements
British Library Learning offers two placements for trainee teachers each year. A placement typically lasts from one to two weeks and provides an opportunity for new teachers to consider how learning outside the classroom or in an alternative educational setting relates to their own work within school.
